The volcano itself is quite impressive with its symmetrical cone shape. You will discover that one side has received multiple eruptions since 1968 with little vegetation while the other side remain lush and green. The volcano is located close to La Fortuna which is only a 25 minute drive. The Arenal Volcano National Park has hiking trails to enjoy a day wandering through the forest. The Las Coladas is 2km long with views of the volcano & Lake Arenal, while El Ceibo Trail is 1.8km long. There are many hotels in the area that provide excellent views from your room of the volcano as well as hot springs. Some of the popular hot springs include Tabacon, The Springs, Baldi Hot Springs, and Eco-Termales. Day passes can be purchased to enjoy a relaxing day at the hot springs or you can combine a day tour of sightseeing, hiking, and soaking up the warm temperatures of the thermal pools.
